Faculty, staff and community members are invited to participate (along with undergraduate students) in Religious Studies 10, titled 2012: Apocalyptic Ethics. Offered during the spring quarter, the two-unit class is scheduled to meet from 3:10 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 30 to June 3 in 1100 Social Sciences and Humanities Building.
The course led by religious studies professor Naomi Janowitz is due to examine apocalyptic ideas circulating at the time of Jesus, how Muslims face the end of times, what kind of apocalyptic ideas motivated early modern scientists, and what drives the popularity of the Left Behind novels.
Janowitz said there is only one prerequisite—watching 2012, a recent film portraying cataclysmic events in 2012.
Janowitz is due to receive teaching help from Catherine Chin, Allison Coudert, Baki Tezcan, Wendy Terry and Moulie Vidas, all of the religious studies faculty.
Staff and community members who want to audit 2012: Apocalyptic Ethics should e-mail Janowitz at nhjanowitz@ucdavis.edu.There is no cost to those auditing the course, and no course credit will be awarded to them.
