Renowned energy expert Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 UC Davis Green Technology Entrepreneurship Academy, where doctoral students, post-docs and research faculty learn to move ideas out of the laboratory and into the marketplace.

Other faculty at the July 7-11 academy will include experts from top venture-capital firms, law firms and research institutions. They will lead sessions covering the first critical steps of entrepreneurship, such as intellectual property, incorporation, building a team and market validation.

The Green Technology Entrepreneurship Academy is a program of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management. Directed by associate professor Andrew Hargadon, the center gives researchers and MBA students the necessary skills, resources and network support to turn ideas into action.

Like last year's inaugural academy, this year's event will be held at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village, Nev.

Students' tuition, room and meal costs will be paid by the Kauffman Foundation. Fellowships from PG&E will cover those costs, plus travel, for two attendees who are working on research in sustainable technologies.

The application deadline is May 16.
