Amateur radio training

UC Davis is hosting an entry-level training class and exam for aspiring amateur radio operators — people who could offer communications assistance during large-scale emergencies.

People interested in taking the class should first attend a one-hour introductory meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the Explorit Science Center’s Mace Park branch, 3141 Fifth St., Davis.

The class and exam in the UC Davis Emergency Operations Center are scheduled for June 13, with the class running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the exam set for 5 p.m.

The training and exam for the Federal Communications Commission technician class license are being organized by the UC Davis Amateur Radio Communications Team, the Yolo Amateur Radio Society, and the Yolo Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

The fee, which includes lunch, is $25, and the study book can be purchased for $20 at the June 2 meeting.

Licensees who are UC Davis employees and students can become involved with the UC Davis amateur radio group, which assists with communications during large-scale emergencies.

For more information about the training, contact Gary Matteson at (530) 219-6777.
