The University of California, Davis, will award an estimated 7,383 degrees for 2006-07 as it completes the academic year with 12 commencements. The School of Education also will recognize 132 students who have completed studies for teaching credentials.

Ceremonies are scheduled through Sunday, June 17, and guest speakers include Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction, on Wednesday, June 13; Sundeep Dugar, an internationally renowned expert in medical chemistry, on Thursday, June 14; and A.G. Kawamura, secretary for the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture, twice on June 16.

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine will hold its commencement at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, in the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The school will award about 85 Doctor of Medicine and 10 Master of Public Health degrees.

School of Education

O'Connell will speak at the School of Education ceremony at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at the Mondavi Center. The school will recognize recipients of 16 doctoral degrees, 87 master's degrees with teaching credential, six master's degrees as well as 132 students who have completed studies for teaching credentials. The numbers for doctoral and master's degrees are included in totals for Graduate Studies.

Graduate Studies

Dugar, who earned his doctorate in chemistry from UC Davis, will speak at the Graduate Studies commencement at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, in the ARC Pavilion. Graduate Studies will award about 338 doctoral and 493 master's degrees.

College of Biological Sciences

The College of Biological Sciences will award some 330 Bachelor of Science, and 15 Bachelor of Arts degrees. Its ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 15, in the ARC Pavilion.

As the young college transitions to awarding its own undergraduate degrees, an additional 330 B.S. degrees for the college will be awarded by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. As well, the College of Letters and Science will award 430 B.S., 20 B.A and five Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees for the newer college. These numbers are included in the totals for the colleges of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and Letters and Science.

School of Veterinary Medicine

The School of Veterinary Medicine will hold its graduation ceremony at noon on Friday, June 15, in the Mondavi Center. It will award 122 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees, 20 Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine degrees and two B.S. degrees. A total of 38 individuals have earned certificates recognizing completion of residency.

College of Engineering

The College of Engineering will confer about 550 B.S. degrees in a 3 p.m. ceremony on Friday, June 15, in the ARC Pavilion.

College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

A.G. Kawamura, secretary for the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture, will speak at both ceremonies for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, in the ARC Pavilion. The college will award about 1,490 B.S. degrees.

Graduate School of Management

The Graduate School of Management will award 132 Master of Business Administration degrees at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the Mondavi Center. Eight students successfully completed the school's Business Development Certificate Program.

College of Letters and Science

The college will award about 2,715 B.A., 810 B.S. and 55 B.A.S. degrees -- for a total of 3,580 degrees this year. Its two programs will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, in the ARC Pavilion.

School of Law

At a ceremony May 19, the law school awarded 20 Master of Laws and 196 Juris Doctor degrees. Longtime author, attorney and public advocate Gus Lee spoke.

Webcasts

The campus will offer live and on-demand webcasts of each of the commencements. Closer to graduation time, a link will be posted on the campus's home page at http://www.ucdavis.edu. Archived on-demand ceremonies will be available at http://commencement.ucdavis.edu/.

Degree Numbers

Numbers of degrees include those earned since last spring's commencement season, including those awarded at two December commencements, and estimates of those to be awarded at ceremonies this year. Those earning certificates or completing studies for teaching credentials are not included in the degree total.

The Office of Resource Management and Planning estimates the number of degrees to be awarded by the undergraduate colleges; Graduate Studies and the five professional schools each estimate the number of degrees they will award. An audit of the actual number of degrees awarded is prepared later.

In 2005-06, the university awarded 7,377 degrees including 5,902 bachelor's, 711 master's, 414 doctoral and 350 professional degrees.
