Mexican-American singer Lila Downs is set to perform in the Mondavi Center's World Stage Series in 2008-09.

The Mondavi Center's seventh season comes with some series name changes and other reorganization:

The jazz series Improvisations is now called Jackson Hall Jazz, and includes: trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and a nine-piece band performing Duke Ellington's Such Sweet Thunder, a suite inspired by Shakespeare's poems and plays; vocalist Cassandra Wilson; and the Blue Note Records 70th Anniversary Tour.

The Studio Jazz Series continues in the Studio Theatre, with cabaret-style seating for Anat Cohen and the Nnenna Freelon Quartet.

The Classic Series has always comprised orchestra music, and, starting in 2008-09, that is what the series is called: Orchestra. This year's offerings: the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, with a program comprised entirely of works by Jewish-American composers, including Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland; the Munich and Estonian National symphony orchestras; and the San Francisco Symphony.

The Global Beat Series gets a new name and two subcategories: World Stage Dance and World Stage Music, to better describe the offerings that range from ballet folklorico, flamenco and tango, to drumming, fiddling and a cappella.

The Mondavi Center has also divided its Family Series, to differentiate programs for the very young (Children's Stage) and a little older (Marvels).

The Children's Stage Family Series comprises The Velveteen Rabbit, a Lara Downes Family Concert (Babar and Other Elephants) and the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Co.

The Marvels Family Series comprises The Best of MOMIX, from a company of "uncannily athletic dancers"; Scrap Arts Music; and Cirque Eloize.
