AgTech Preview to focus on food and agriculture innovation

The World Food Center, in partnership with the Sacramento Regional Technology Alliance, is hosting an AgTech Preview next Wednesday, Nov. 5, as a run-up to TechCon Sacramento on Nov. 6.

The preview, starting at 3 p.m. at the Buehler Alumni center, will highlight the innovation pipeline, from discovery to commercialization, and will feature faculty members and industry leaders.

The program includes three sessions focused on new technology trends in the food and agriculture sector, moving discoveries from lab to market, and emerging technologies and intellectual property from UC Davis.

UC Davis speakers will include Alison Van Eenennaam, a Cooperative Extension animal genomics and biotechnology specialist; Professor Bruce German, a food chemist and director of the Foods for Health Institute; Chris Simmons, assistant professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology; and Harold Schmitz, senior scholar in management at the Graduate School of Management.

A networking reception is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. at the environmentally sophisticated research and teaching winery and brewery, part of the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

TechCon Sacramento the next day at the Sacramento Convention Center will feature 65 speakers and four technology tracks: Ag Tech, Clean Tech, Med Tech and Next Tech.

The speakers lineup includes Roger Beachy, executive director of the World Food Center, who is known internationally for his scientific leadership and groundbreaking research related to disease resistance in crops.
