“Outside the Lines, Spring Quarter,” presented at UC Davis by the College of Letters and Science’s Department of Theatre and Dance, showcases new works choreographed by graduate and undergraduate students.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. performance, also, on May 25 in the Wright Hall Main Theatre.
The show includes dances by graduate students Diego Martinez-Campos, Lena Polzonetti and Julia Rigby and undergraduate students Kevin Butt, Tara Choat, Audrey Martel, Stephanie Nielsen, Lesly Solano and Andrea Varela. The choreography has been curated by David Grenke, theatre and dance department chair.
In this edition of “Outside the Lines,” the choreographers explore a diverse range of themes, from chaos versus order to the internal workings of the mind.
“My new dance theatre piece is inspired by the psychological state of derangement,” said Martinez-Campos. “The work collides dynamic, high-speed movement with layers of original text and sound.”
Nielsen said her piece, “Synchronicity,” started as an amalgamation of improvisations that she had put together.
“Unintentionally it became a piece that comments on women and the societal expectations that I, and many women, have to deal with daily,” she said.
General admission is $10, faculty/staff are $9 and students/seniors are $7. Tickets are available at the UC Davis Athletic Ticket Office, on the north side of Aggie Stadium, or by phone 530- 752-2471 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are also available online.
