A curator for the upcoming exhibition Gauguin: A Spiritual Journey at the de Young/Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco starting Nov. 17 will speak at University of California, Davis, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m.

Pedersen is the primary writer of the book being published in conjunction with the show. The exhibition is made up of 50 Gauguin paintings, wood carvings, and ceramics from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, along with works from the Fine Arts Museum. Her visit to UC Davis coincides with a class on Gauguin being taught by Professor James Housefield this fall.

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, Denmark) displays a world-renowned collection of 19th century painting and sculpture as well as Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art. Building on the legacy of brewer Carl Jacobsen, the museum today represents his dream to make art accessible to a wider audience. Focusing on the history of the museum and its collection of French art, curator and head of the Glyptotek’s modern art department Clausen Pedersen will talk about her work in Copenhagen and internationally, including the exhibition Gauguin: A Spiritual Journey, a collaboration between the Glyptotek and the de Young Museum in San Francisco. More information here.

WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 13, 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Manetti Shrem Museum, Community Education Room, UC Davis, Old Davis Road, Davis

Pedersen’s appearance is sponsored by Art History with co-sponsorship from the Art Studio program Visiting Artist Lecture Series, the Department of Design, the Department of French and Italian, and the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.

The Gaugin exhibition at de Young runs Nov. 17–April 7.
