Workshop on Russell Boulevard Access From UC Davis Neighborhood

The University of California, Davis, and the City of Davis will hold a joint public workshop to discuss options for access to Russell Boulevard from the proposed UC Davis neighborhood west of Highway 113.

The workshop will be held Thursday, July 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Emerson Junior High School Multipurpose Room, 2121 Calaveras Ave.

As presently written, the Draft Environmental Impact Report would allow the neighborhood plan to be approved with or without an automobile connection. No decision has been made on this question.

Recent comments on the plan have raised concerns about traffic levels and speed on Russell Boulevard, noise, potential loss of trees, and bicycle and pedestrian safety, among other issues. This workshop will provide participants the opportunity to review potential options to address these issues, and provide input on additional options to be studied.

The 224-acre residential neighborhood would consist of about 1,600 housing units for students, faculty, and staff, and include recreation fields, a community education center, commercial services and an elementary school. It could house about 4,350 residents.
