War on terror is symposium focus

An analysis of the war on terror, focusing on its effects on immigration law and the civil rights of immigrant communities, will be offered during a daylong symposium at UC Davis on Friday, April 2.

"Immigration and Civil Rights After September 11: The Impact on California" is presented by the UC Davis Law Review. It is free and open to the public.

Following a 9:15 a.m. welcome by Law School Dean Rex Perschbacher, four panel discussions with experts and moderators are scheduled:

  • "The War on Terror, Racial Profiling and Immigrants," 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.;
  • "Detention of Immigrants: Recent Developments and the Future," 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.;
  • "Guest Workers," 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.; and
  • "Activism in Immigrations Com-munities," 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The panelists will include several UC Davis faculty -- from the law school, Chicano/a Studies Program, Asian American studies, and agricultural and resource economics. The panel also will include notable experts from the academic, legal and immigrant communities throughout the United States.
