The Department of Campus Recreation is preparing to launch its Summer Youth Programs on June 16, and, as of earlier this week, space was still available for many activities.

Offerings range from craft camps and teen craft classes, to whitewater rafting adventures, and lots more in between, like dance and movement, Bam! Body and Mind, and a boys lacrosse clinic.

Most camps and classes run one week at a time, with the last session scheduled from Aug. 18 to 22; some programs are in full- or half-day format. Swim lessons for infants through age 15 also are available; session lengths vary.

Craft camps for grades 3-7 are broken into such sections as drawing and painting, jewelry and accessories, and sculpture, or children may want to try the Craft Sampler Camp.

Teen craft classes cover silk painting, stained glass, screenprinting, and black-and-white photography.

BAM! for grades 7-12 provides a fun introduction to wellness, incoporating social, emotional, physical, environmental, spiritual and intellectual components. Activities include yoga, and nontraditional and exciting ways to increase physical activity, plus instruction in healthy eating habits.

Rectopia is a general recreation camp for kindergarten through sixth grade, offering a wide variety of activities, including rock climbing, games, swimming and crafts.

Movement camps explore ballet, Latin dance, modern, theatrical movement and yoga, with the camps open to all levels, including beginners. "Intensives" camps for Levels 2 and 3 focus on one kind of dance: ballet, jazz, or street jam and hip-hop.

The UC Davis men's lacrosse club will instruct the boys lacrosse clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 21 and 22 at Russell Field. The camp is for grades 3 to 12, and for all skill levels, beginners included.

Two whitewater rafting camps, with overnight camping, are planned on the South Fork of the American River. Each camp is scheduled to run for four days; one for grades 8 to 10 and the other for grades 10-12.
