UC Davis Police Lt. Nader Oweis has assumed the public information officer duties for the Police Department, replacing Paul Pfotenhauer of the UC Davis News Service.

Oweis currently oversees the UC Davis Police Department's campus patrol division and is also a crisis negotiator on the critical incident negotiation team. Promoted last July to lieutenant, Oweis has been with the campus Police Department since 1994. He was promoted to sergeant in 1999, and in recent years served as a field training officer and supervised the detective's unit. Oweis earned a bachelor's degree in managerial economics from UC Davis in 1992.

The UC Davis Police Department is a state police agency that provides patrol, investigative and crime prevention services on the main Davis campus and at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Pfotenhauer will continue to serve as public information officer for the UC Davis Fire Department.
