Open House Features Raptors up Close, Demos

Feb. 14, Saturday -- An open house of the California Raptor Center at UC Davis will feature demonstrations of raptor biology and ecology, and visitors will be able to see different raptors up close. The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with presentations at 10 a.m. and noon. There will be special "Hawk Walks" for adults at 7:30 a.m. and for families at noon. The center cares for injured raptors, and birds that cannot be released to the wild are trained to take part in the education program. Students of vet medicine, wildlife biology and other disciplines get hands-on experience in caring for wildlife. The center is on the southern edge of campus. From Interstate 80, take the UC Davis exit and go south on Old Davis Road. Immediately before the Putah Creek bridge, turn left onto the levee road. Follow the paved levee road one block and turn diagonally left to reach the parking lot. For more information, see http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/ars/OpenHouse.htm.
