Open house at COSMOS, the summer program for budding mathematicians and scientists

COSMOS, the California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science, is reaching out to UC Davis faculty and staff with high school-aged children who may be interested in participating in COSMOS this summer.

COSMOS operates on four UC campuses, including Davis. Parents and their children are invited to learn more during a UC Davis COSMOS open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in 1147 Mathematics and Sciences Building.

Students live on campus during the monthlong COSMOS program, this year scheduled from July 5 to Aug. 1. UC faculty and researchers work side-by-side with COSMOS students, in the exploration of advanced topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, using curriculum that is hands-on and lab intensive.

Students are eligible on completion of the ninth through 12th grades; some eighth-graders also are eligible. The 2009 tuition is $2,425 for California residents, with full and partial financial assistance available. Tuition includes room and board, classroom materials, field trips, and transportation while on campus.

The application period opened Feb. 1 and runs through March 15. More information is available online; the application form is here.

Interested in attending the Feb. 11 open house at UC Davis? Please RSVP by contacting COSMOS, (530) 754-7326 or cosmos@ucdavis.edu.
