MOORE THAN JUST A LITTLE UPSET...

Author/filmmaker Michael Moore speaks to about 30 journalists at a press conference last week at Mondavi Center during the 31st stop on his 39-city, 23-day tour of the country to promote his new book. Moore offered a preview of issues he would address in his two sold-out Mondavi Center lectures held later in the day, entitled "Bowling for Columbine: America's Culture of Fear and Its Consequences." He touched on the California recall, his support of lowering the country's voting age to 16, and, of course, the presidency. "This looks like a book tour, but really it's just a way to get my publisher to pay for a yearlong campaign to remove George W. Bush from our White House," he said. Moore's appearance marked the first in this year's Western Health Advantage Distinguished Speakers series at UC Davis. Other speakers include Garrison Keillor, Nov. 10; Karen Hughes, Feb. 9; Salman Rushdie, March 15; and Sister Helen Prejean, April 23.
