Mondavi performs well at box office

Ticket sales for Mondavi Center's second season continue to be strong, according to university officials.

Two months after tickets went on sale to renew Mondavi Center subscribers, sales already exceed $1.6 million and 52,000 tickets -- more than 40 percent of projected season capacity of 112,000. Last year, during Mondavi Center's inaugural season, a total of 113,000 tickets were sold with a total revenue of $3.3 million.

Mondavi Center is currently accepting new subscription orders; single tickets will go on sale Aug. 16. Online ticketing also is set to be introduced on Aug. 16.

Several events for Mondavi Center's 2003-04 season are sold-out or approaching sold-out status, including Itzhak Perlman (Jan. 17), Garrison Keillor (Nov. 10), Michael Moore (Oct. 27), Bobby McFerrin (April 17), Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (March 10) and the Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (March 6). The Shostakovich Project, featuring the Alexander String Quartet and Robert Greenberg, also is sold out. However, some tickets for sold-out events may be released for sale 30 days before each performance.

The 2003-04 season features an expansive mix of seasoned masters, emerging artists and leading cultural figures -- with 73 artists presenting 110 shows and lectures.
