UC Davis anthropologist Margaret Byrne Swain can talk about gender-equity issues in tourism in regards to industry employment, the worldwide sex trade and in tourist events. Swain uses feminist theories to examine tourism, which, until the current recession, was the largest global industry. She also studies the effects of tourism on Tibeto-Burman people who live in the Stone Forest of southwest China. Swain co-edited "Gender/Tourism/Fun" (2002).
