UC Davis Police Conclude Investigation Into Student Death
WHAT: The UC Davis Police Department and UC Davis Counseling Center will hold a media availability to release final findings in the investigation into the January 2001 death of student Andrew Wieman and to provide information on counseling resources for the community.

WHEN: Monday, February 11, 10:30 a.m. (or upon conclusion of Yolo County Sheriff's press conference on the same investigation).

DIRECTIONS:
From Sacramento: Take Highway 113 north to Hutchison Drive exit. Travel east toward main campus, crossing La Rue Drive. Turn left on Klieber Hall Drive, in front of the Life Science Building. The police and fire departments are on the left, and there is an adjacent parking lot. Members of the media with unmarked vehicles should place a media business card on the dashboard.
From Woodland: Take Highway 113 south to Hutchison Drive exit. Travel east, and follow same directions as above.

BACKGROUND:
Andrew Wieman, 20, a junior who had been majoring in managerial economics, was found dead in his bedroom at his on-campus fraternity house on January 4 of 2001. The Yolo County Coroner determined the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds. Further investigation revealed that a knife believed to have caused the wounds had belonged to Andrew and contained his fingerprints. A note discovered in his room was also found to have been written by Andrew. Tests showed no alcohol or drugs in his system.
In the ensuing months, the Department of Justice evaluated evidence provided by the UC Davis Police Department and Yolo County Coroner. Final reports were received from the state last week.
