Students passing by the north hallway of the Memorial Union have more of a reason to gather in the corridor than usual. A high-tech plasma television screen made its debut in the MU a few weeks ago. Campus Unions teamed with installer University Network to bring the plasma screen to the MU at no cost to the university. Movie trailers and the new weekly student-produced news show Aggie TV have been showing on the television, but eventually the TV also will show promotional pieces about upcoming campus happenings and student organization event notices. University Network pays to show the trailers, so the MU is making money by having the screen, says Acey Hannam, director of MU Auxiliary Services. "I think people are just fascinated that something's up there," says Hannam. "There hasn't been a lot going on in the MU," she says, noting: "But expect to see more events in the Coffee House and Silo next year. We are using the income to help student organizations put on events in our facilities." Meanwhile, Auxiliary Services also is working with Information and Educational Technology to put up two other TVs in the MU on which to broadcast Aggie TV and UC public service announcements along with cable news programming.
