Get physical: Celebrate Your Body Week

The campus will hold Celebrate Your Body Week from Feb. 27 to March 3. Titled, "Nourishing what's real, changing the ideal," the week of activities and festivities includes:

  • Feb. 27: "Taste of Culture." From 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cross Cultural Center, an informal panel that offers a cross-cultural dialogue about the meaning of and celebration of food in different cultures.

From 7 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Union's DeCarli Room on the second floor, a discussion on "Disordered Eating: Becoming an Ally" takes place under the guidance of Jennifer Pollak and Heather Peters.

  • Feb. 28: The performance, "Body Language," celebrates students' experiences with body image and the everyday triumphs of their lives. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the MUII.

A forum on "What's In Your Bottle: The realities of Nutritional Supplements," will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 1 at the ARC. Jeff Holcomb will lead the discussion.

  • March 1: A yoga session, "Celebrate Your Body Yoga," will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the ARC Ballroom. Joanna Hoch will lead the activities. Wear comfortable clothing. Participants do not need to be ARC members to attend.

The workshop, "Hungry for Change: Understanding Body Image Through the Lens of Social Justice," takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the MU Gallery on the second floor. From 5 to 6 p.m. in Room 3 at the ARC, the workshop, "Calm the Mind and Nourish the Body: A Mindful Eating Workshop," will be led by Shelley Chavoor. From 7 to 8 p.m. in the ARC Ballroom, the program, "Faster Times," provides humorous and thought-provoking information.

  • March 2: "The Great Jean Giveaway" from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the ARC Atrium is an opportunity to donate the jeans in your closet that give you the body blues and help people in need.

An informal dicussion from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center will explore body image, internalized oppression, self-esteem, and beauty within queer contexts. At 7 p.m. in the ARC Ballroom, the session, "Learning to Eat, Not to Diet" will be led by Ann Selkowitz Litt, author of The College Student's Guide to Eating Well on Campus.

  • March 3: "Love Your Body Yoga" runs from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Experimental College. The instructor is Annie Laurie. Wear comfortable clothes.
