An interactive exhibit designed to educate the public about six deadly cancers will make a four-day stop at UC Davis Medical Center May 25-28.
A gigantic, walk-through colon depicting examples of healthy and diseased colon tissue is among the attractions to be featured at the "Check Your Insides Out -- From Top to Bottom" exhibit, which will be open especially for UC Davis employees on May 26 at the Medical Center in Sacramento.
The exhibit was developed by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation and is on a 12-city national tour. The UC Davis Cancer Center is hosting the Sacramento stopover to inform residents about skin, oral, breast, prostate, lung and colorectal cancers.
The exhibit will be set up at the special events site on the corner of 45th and X streets.
Julie Darr, patient education coordinator for UC Davis Cancer Center, said the exhibit is a creative way to share important cancer prevention, early detection and treatment messages.
"The exhibit highlights some of the best ways to prevent cancer, including maintaining a healthy lifestyle, knowing your family medical history, conducting routine self-examinations and talking to your doctor about regular screening tests," she said.
The presentation is open to UC Davis employees from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 26; to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27; and to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 28.
At the exhibit, visitors can:
- learn ways to improve their overall health and take charge of their bodies;
- experience the effects of sun exposure and participate in interactive games;
- look inside a large mouth to learn about oral cancer prevention;
- go digital to learn about prostate cancer early detection; and
- listen to lungs "talk" about lung cancer facts to share tips about cancer prevention and healthy living.
