Celebrate international education; meet campus's Humphrey Fellows

UC Davis’ 2008-09 Humphrey Fellows, professionals from around the world, are scheduled to introduce themselves to the campus community during an open forum next week. Organizers said the visitors will talk about their homelands and take questions from the audience.

The forum comes amid International Education Week, Nov. 17-22. The theme this UC Davis Centennial year is 100 Years of International Education: From Our Local Community to the Global Community.

Other highlights include the International Education Week Student Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 in Freeborn Hall, a Mexican Film Festival Nov. 17-21 and a film from the Czech Republic.

The Humphrey Fellows Global Forum: Perspectives on Culture is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Fielder Room at the Memorial Union.

This year’s fellows are Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Bangladesh; Falguni Banerjee, India; Julián Andres Cardona Vallejo, Colombia; Arturo Cerezo Cárdenas, Panama; Renato Duarte da Conceição, Brazil; Meena Kunwar Adhikari, Nepal; Ruzanna Martirosyan, Armenia; Trecia Yanique Mullings, Jamaica; Espérance Nzabamwita Ngamije, Rwanda; Aden Atteyeh Sougal, Djibouti; and Huatian Zhang, China.

The week concludes Nov. 22 with a Thanksgiving feast from 5 to 9 p.m. at the International House. The I-House and Club International are hosting.
