Causeway Classic generates another 'cause': Donating blood

UC Davis is hoping to "Stick It to Sac State" on the football field and at the blood bank.

The football game is the 55th annual Causeway Classic, set for 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at Aggie Stadium. The blood bank showdown started Oct. 20 and continues through Nov. 7 -- as the two universities try to outdo each other in donations.

During this period, the ASUCD is hosting a two-day blood drive. It is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4 and 5 in Freeborn Hall.

Or, you can visit any BloodSource location or any other mobile blood drive and specify that you want the Aggies to get the credit for your donation.

A perpetual trophy will go to the winning school during the Causeway Classic.

The blood bank has something for donors, too: free T-shirts and movie tickets (for the IMAX three-dimensional Wild Ocean). In addition, people who come to Freeborn Hall to donate blood will have a chance to an iPod — the ASUCD plans to give away 10 of them.

BloodSource advises that donors must be in general good health, weigh 110 pounds or more and be at least 17 years old, or 16 with a signed BloodSource parental consent form. A photo ID is required when registering to donate blood.
