Members of the UC Davis community are invited to participate in third annual Campus Community Book Project events beginning next week. The project seeks to promote a greater sense of community among students, staff, faculty and community members by creating the common experience of reading the same book. The book selection for this year is Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, by Anna Deavere Smith, who also adapted the work to film.
Activities for the week ahead include:
- Oct. 11, the kick-off event invites members of the Davis community to share their personal stories about their experiences in Los Angeles in the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict, from noon to 2 p.m. in MUII.
- Oct. 13, During Listening: A First Step to Healing, law students will discuss the personal impact of the events surrounding the Rodney King verdict and how racism affects their lives today, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the University Club Lounge.
- Oct. 14, A book discussion with Barbara Sellers-Young, a professor of theatre and dance, from noon to 1 p.m. in Shields Library.
