Student arrested with toy gun

The UC Davis Police Department on Tuesday announced the arrest of a former student following an incident in which he allegedly attempted to rob at gunpoint the main campus cashier's office at Dutton Hall.

Police arrested Charles Lorenz Rambo, 24, formerly of Murrieta, just before noon without incident, outside the campus building. There were no injuries reported. He was arrested on charges of robbery, terrorist threats, theft with priors, and violation of probation. He was subsequently booked into the Yolo County Jail in Woodland.

Rambo entered Dutton Hall at 11:30 a.m., according to police, and exhibited a black-handled handgun that turned out to be an Airsoft gun. Airsoft-brand products are non-lethal realistic replicas of actual firearms that shoot round 6 mm or 8 mm plastic pellets.

Police say Rambo pointed the handgun at the cashiers and said something to them, at which point at least one of the cashiers activated a robbery alarm. Rambo subsequently left the area, but was detained by officers soon after he left Dutton Hall.

Rambo, formerly a political science major at UC Davis, began his studies on campus in the fall of 2002 and was last registered for classes in the winter oof 2004.

Police are asking anyone who might have seen Rambo prior to the morning incident at Dutton Hall to please contact them at (530) 752-1230.
