- Hazmat response training and controlled burn
- ARC welcomes back alumni and community members
The UC Davis Fire Department will participate in two drills this week: One, a hazmat response training with the National Guard and FBI, will take place at UC Davis Health Stadium Wednesday and Thursday (June 2-3). The first responders will be practicing what they would do in case of a chemical weapon attack, and emergency vehicles and personnel may be seen staging in Parking Lot 56, south of the stadium. A-frame signs in the area will notify passersby that there is no emergency on campus.
The other, also on Thursday, is a controlled burn of roughly 107 acres near the Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility, west of campus. That burn is part of a West Valley Regional Fire Training Consortium class taught by Dixon Fire Chief Todd McNeal, and will also include a second day of controlled burns Friday, near the Yocha Dehe Fire Department in Brooks.
ARC open to all members
The Activities and Recreation Center is now open to all members: students, employees, alumni and community members. Students returned to the fitness center in April, and faculty, staff and emeriti members were allowed to return last month. Today (June 1) marks the first time during the current reopening that alumni and community members can book a reservation to exercise there. Reservations are required, and can be made online through the Rec Portal. A completed Daily Symptom Survey is also required to enter the ARC. A list of frequently asked questions about the ARC’s reopening is available on the Campus Recreation website.
