COMPUTERS GOING OFFLINE: Information and Educational Technology announced that dozens of UC Davis computer services and Web sites will be unavailable from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 21 while technicians upgrade electrical and network systems at the Data Center.
Services as varied as e-mail, SmartSite, MyUCDavis and Mondavi Center ticketing will be temporarily suspended, but the main campus Web site, www.ucdavis.edu, should remain up.
DIAL-UP MODEM SERVICE ENDS JAN. 1: Time is running out for anyone who still uses the campus dial-up modem service. As announced last summer, the service will be discontinued on Jan. 1 to save money.
Information and Educational Technology began phasing out the service, which offers off-campus access to the Internet and the UC Davis computing network, in July. Most former users long ago switched to commercial Internet service providers that offer much faster connections.
