Sports journalists Daniel Brown ‘92 and Amy “Amy G.” Gutierrez ’95 are visiting their alma mater this Saturday (Dec. 7) to talk about and sign their new books, and take in an Aggie basketball game (and sign books there, too).

Brown, a sports writer for the San Jose Mercury News, has written 100 Things 49ers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die (with foreward by Roger Craig); and Gutierrez, “sideline” reporter for San Francisco Giants telecasts, has written a children's book, Smarty Marty's Got Game (with illustrations by Adam McCauley).

The authors have a book signing scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Avid Reader, 617 Second St., Davis. Separately, UC Davis Athletics has arranged for Brown and Gutierrez to hold a book signing at the men's basketball game vs. Nevada, starting at 7 p.m. at The Pavilion. Tickets.

In between, the authors will gather with students who may be interested in careers similar to Brown's and Gutierrez's. UC Davis Athletics is the organizer of this event, described as a meet-and-greet and question-and-answer session. It is scheduled from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. (the times are different than originally announced) in the Garrison Room at the Memorial Union.

The “lively and detailed” 100 Things 49ers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die "explores important facts and figures from the team's storied history, including the early years of Y.A. Tittle and the team’s golden era in the 1980s and 1990s," according to Amazon.com.

Smarty Marty is about a girl who teaches the game of baseball, and her love for it, to her younger brother Mikey. The story "appeals to both boys and girls and also defies the strong gender stereotypes that Amy herself has battled in her 16-year career as a sports journalist and reporter,” reads the book’s description on Amazon.com.
