‘Play, dance, celebrate, eat’ in arboretum

A "fantasy drawn from the landscape itself" is planned May 27-29 in the UC Davis Arboretum.

The event is called Convivium: Participatory Theatre in the Arboretum, to be led by performance artist Ara Glenn-Johanson.

An arboretum news release states: "Where perfect rows of seats give way to the crooks of trees, where the curtains grow on every side and are only as thick as the leaves, there is no line between player and played to: We play, dance, search, celebrate and eat together."

The performance will feature revelers from the Department of Theatre and Dance and from the community at large in "abstract adventures of art and eating."

Performances are scheduled where Garrod Drive meets Equestrian Lane, starting at 6:45 each of the three nights. There is no charge, but space is limited; therefore, reservations are required: arrange them by e-mailing conviviumshow@gmail.com.

Children are welcome, and participants are asked to bring food to contribute to the convivium potluck. Free parking is available along Garrod Drive and in Lot 55. For more information, contact the arboretum: (530) 752-4880 or arboretum.ucdavis.edu.
