UC Davis alumna and art faculty featured at Contemporary Jewish Museum

Young Suh, UC Davis associate professor of art, and Elisabeth Higgins O’Connor (MFA 2005) are featured in Jewish Folktales Retold : Artist as Maggid through Jan. 28, 2018 at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco.

The UC Davis artists are two of sixteen contemporary artists commissioned to produce work for the exhibition, in which 16 contemporary artists respond to a selection of tales from Jewish folklore. 

New works at state, a new space in San Francisco

Divide and Connect, a solo show of new work by Oakland-based artist Adia Millett, will be on view through Nov. 23. The exhibition will occupy all three of state’s gallery spaces with textile and photo collage works.

state is a new visual arts exhibition space in the Mission District of San Francisco. state exhibits contemporary art with an emphasis on Bay Area artists and project-based artwork. state is run by Danielle Smith and Kimberly Verde of FRAMEWORK.

Divide and Connect addresses a broad cross-section of themes including traditional craft and storytelling, personal psychology, attachment theory, Afrofuturism, African American quilt making and the artist’s ongoing investigation into the concept of ‘home’.

The di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art to open new exhibition soon

The di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art in Napa will present its first institution-wide exhibition comprising new commissions and guest-curated projects with work from the permanent collection. Unfolding in two parts from fall through 2018, Be Not Still: Living in Uncertain Times addresses concerns of the present social and political climate through eight large-scale and ambitious artist-led inquiries.

These projects offer viewers multiple lenses through which to reflect on and engage with prescient matters affecting our local and global communities. Central to Be Not Still is an extensive education and civic engagement roster, including community partnerships and artist-centered programming, to provide multiple opportunities for visitors to interact with the exhibition.
