Alum shines in broadcasting limelight

For Ignacio Torres ‘10, his already exciting career became electric last year as he turned two challenging opportunities into major accomplishments:

The young television producer was put in charge of the 2012 Olympics coverage and helped out with the 2012 election coverage for NBCLatino.com, an English language digital branch of NBC News. Torres has also rolled up his sleeves for NBC’s Today show and Rock Center with Brian Williams.

A double major in Spanish and communication, Torres now works in New York City in Web multimedia work, serving as a photographer, producer, reporter, video editor and camera operator. Like so many of UC Davis’ young alumni, he is building a successful career and meaningful life.

“While I may be thousands of miles from California and years past my graduation,” Torres said, “I still carry my UC Davis alumni pin with me.”

After earning his bachelor’s degree at UC Davis, he went on to complete a master’s in journalism at Columbia University.

UC Davis has 213,626 living alumni with degrees. Alums like Torres are examples of how the university’s highly ranked undergraduate programs prepares students to excel in their chosen fields.
