Shaping the university of the 21st century

What they predict

Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi has a vision for positioning UC Davis to become the university of the 21st century.

And Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter, who leads the campus’s effort to implement that vision, predicts that UC Davis in the next 20 years “will be recognized as one of the indispensable universities in the world.”  How will we get there?

The provost joined seven other representatives of the UC Davis community to discuss the future of our university in a spirited conversation about Chancellor Katehi’s vision for this campus, and our university’s aspirations, opportunities and challenges.

Watch the hourlong conversation and read about predictions for the future of higher education in UC Davis Magazine.

In that discussion, Hexter says creative students and faculty — assisted by staff — will discover ways to use emerging technologies to enhance their interactions and pioneer new ways to make classroom experience absolutely quality time.

These campus leaders, administrators, alumni, faculty, staff — and one very courageous, poised student — peered into the future to answer:

  • What will our student body look like?
  • What will our campus look like? How will faculty teach?
  • And how will UC Davis set the standard by which other universities are measured in the years to come?
