Picnic Day: Milking the day for fun
By Dustan Li
Imagine this: It’s Saturday, April 18, and you enter the UC Davis campus on Picnic Day and pick up a Schedule of Events, which outlines the 200-plus events offered on campus. You flip through the pages and notice the parade, Doxie Derby and cockroach races.
Get spooky with biomedical engineering
Are you a fan of haunted houses on Halloween? Do you want to learn more about the amazing and innovative biomedical engineering research happening at UC Davis?
A friendly kayaking competition
Put on by Outdoor Adventures, the Kayak Races will be held at the Hickey Pool from the first time in Picnic Day history. Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit or a change of clothing because there is a 100 percent chance that you will get wet.
Make a beeline to the Robert Mondavi Institute
Did you know that UC Davis produces its own honey on campus? Tucked away on the south portion of campus in the Robert Mondavi Institute, the Honey and Pollination Center will be holding events for its Pollination Day exhibit.
Dogs flying high
Head on over to Hutchison Field to catch some Frisbee dogs in action. This event, now in its 32nd year, will feature skilled and dexterous dogs that jump to catch Frisbees.
Meet Charlie the K-9
Walk over to the Aggie Festival Field to check out Charlie, the UC Davis Police Department’s dog, in action at the Police K-9 Show. You’ll have two chances to see the 45-minute demonstrations.
Moo-ve on to the Cole Facility
Is milking a cow on your bucket list? If it is not, it should be! Walk over to the Cole Facility Building A for Cow Hand Milking, being put on by the Department of Animal Science. In addition to this hands-on experience, you will also be able to learn how milk is produced. You can stay in the Cole Facility area and visit the Goat Milking event.
